What is the difference between a VDU, VDT, DSE & Monitor?
None.
These terms all mean the same – a display screen. The Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992 (DSE) apply to staff who habitually use display screens as a significant part of their normal work.
VDU’s have been blamed – often wrongly – for a wide range of health problems. Only a small proportion of users actually suffer ill health as a result of their work.
Problems generally occur because of the way that we use the VDU. Problems can therefore be avoided with good workplace and job design, and by the way you use your VDU and workstation. Good training reduces the risk of such problems occurring.
